A Tale of Two “Typhoons”:
The “Terry Guo Effect”

On September 6, 2007, as I was stepping into a Japan Asia Airways to begin my journey from Narita Airport to Kaoshiung, I was met by two “typhoons”:
-
the first, the 9th typhoon, a physical one, hitting Japan mainland and caused a delay of my flight by more then an hour. I was told that there were severe physical damages on Japan’s East Coast,
the second, a “mental typhoon,” hit me in the face via the front page of a Chinese newspaper I received as I entered the airplane. The news stated that Taiwan’s multibillionaire Terry Guo Taiming donated a whopping NT15 billion (around $455 million US,) lock-stock-and-barrel, to National Taiwan University to develop a cancer hospital and advanced medical facilities such as a proton therapy center and other bio |
